Laugh In Golden Anniversary

50 years ago, today, the very first NBC regular program aired, on January 22, 1968. It was the number one show in ratings from '68 till '70.
It is still a cult favorite of mine! I highly recommend it for those of us that lived it and the many that have never even heard of it!
Rowan and Martin's laugh-in was an epic success in the late 60's and early 70's!
At that time college students of the day were organizing  "sit-in's" across the U.S.A. Hence the title of the show was born.

The format each week was basically the same. Dan Rowan and Dick Martin would open the show and then you would be whisked off to the go-go dance party where a variety of regular hysterical characters would get you laughing right out loud!

The skits were charged with the hippie counterculture, anti war demonstrations, and civil rights of the day.
It is a true time capsule, a rare peak at the history, of the times.
140 episodes aired  over 6 seasons, from January 22, 1968 - March 12,1973.

It all began with a special on September 9th, 1967.....That was such a success, it was brought back as a
regular weekly program and replaced the... "Man from Uncle" on Mondays at 8:00 pm.

Many famous people of the time would appear out of no where and utter that catch phrase..."Sock It To Me!" or perhaps "You bet your sweet bippy!"
Or "Here comes the judge!"
