Date With The Angels

For those of us not old enough to remember, "Date With The Angels" was on the ABC from May 10, 1957 to January 29, 1958. A total of 33 half hour episodes were produced in that time period.

Now she is  a real "Angel" in Heaven.... as she has passed away just 18 days from her 100th birthday.

Now, she is with the love of her life, Allen Ludden.

They were married in 1962 , he died in 1981.

 Super Circus aired live on Sunday afternoons from 5 to 6pm Eastern Time from 1949-1956 on ABC. 

It was the closest you could get to being under the big top and if you are old enough to have seen a few of the live performances, you are indeed blessed. "Old and Young" are just words.

                           The Roy Rogers Show

Starring Dale Evans, Roy Rogers, Trigger & Pat Brady. From 1951 - 1957 the Double R Ranch featured, "The King of the Cowboys" Roy, his "Smartest Horse in the Movies" Trigger, "Queen of the West" Dale, her horse Buttermilk, their dog Bullet, and even Pat's 1946 Willy's CJ-2A Jeep named Nellybelle.

I remember! I watched it as millions of us boomer boys and girls did, growing up in an age when cowboy shows were to cool for words alone.

This post will start with Season One, Episode One entitled, "Jailbreak."

In  early 1973 my father Roy took me and my little brother Darl out west on a motorhome vacation. While out there we  went to the, "The Roy Rogers Museum"   

We saw both "Trigger' and "Bullet" as Roy had them both preserved forever.

 According to Wikipedia: "Gone with the West" is a 1975 American Western film starring James Caan and Stefanie Powers,  and was directed by Bernard Girard. 

The film is also known as "Little Moon and Jud McGraw" in Australia. It was filmed in 1969 under the title "Man Without Mercy" but did not find a cinema release.

To be a child sitting in a theater in 1939 and watching a commercial sponsored by the Kellogg Company. 

It probably ran back to back with a Popeye cartoon, before the news reel, previews, and the main attraction. This is a piece of history from the golden age of advertising via the big screen.

Remember Those Old Shows

 Back in the day we only had a few channels to choose from, but it seemed there was always something good on to watch. Now, I find myself with hundreds and hundreds of channels and  having a very difficult time finding anything to watch.

The Wild Wild West was an American Western espionage and science fiction television series that ran on the CBS television network for four seasons from September 17, 1965 to April 11, 1969.

 

                                                             

For All Time

Today's movie is "For All Time"  According to the IMDb 

"A man is facing middle-age and a failing marriage.He finds a time slip that can take him back to the end of the 18th Century."

It is a made for TV movie starring Mark Hammon, David Lereaney, and Mary McDonell, which first aired October 18, 2000.

It was based on The Twilight Zone episode, " A Stop at Willoughby " written by Rod Serling. The teleplay was by Vivienne Radkoff and it was directed by Steven Schachter. Wish it didn't take 21 years for me to discover this! 

Also, I wish my loving wife could have been with me now so we could share this together.

I have always been a fan of Rod Serling's writing and remember the Twilight Zone episode"A Stop At Willouhby" vividly.

I'm sure you will enjoy this! If you have an hour or so for yourself you will not be disapointed!

Hogans Heros was an American Television sitcom set in a German prisoner of war (POW) camp during World War II. 

It ran for six seasons with 168 episodes produced  from September 17, 1965 until April 4, 1971. 

It aired on the CBS network and was the  longest broadcast run for an American television series about WWll.

According to Jonathon Berr Senior Contributer of Forbes on September 18, 2019......

"To say that Hogan's Heroes was politically incorrect would be an understatement. The sitcom was based on the absurd notion that Col. Robert Hogan and his band of saboteurs could operate out of a prisoner of war camp in Germany called Stalag 13. The Nazis in the show such as Commandant Wilhelm Klink and Sergeant Hans Schultz were dimwitted and not evil. Every episode featured at least one threat to send a Nazi to the "Russian Front" or a prisoner to "the cooler." There were plenty of Adolf Hitler jokes."

He goes on to explain quoting  from  Brenda Scott Royce, author of Hogan's Heroes: Behind the Scenes at Stalag 13,

that the wounds of World War II were still fresh for many people at the time the show aired.

My own father "Roy Martin Badgerow" was himself a POW.

He would bust a gut when he watched. He loved the show as did so many other of his age group. I also think it has a place here in Yesterday Television.

Do you remember....

Leave It to Beaver? 

If not...... it was American television situation comedy about an inquisitive and often naive boy named Theodore "The Beaver" Cleaver who was portrayed by Jerry Mathers. It followed  his adventures at home, in school, and around his suburban neighborhood.

The show also starred Barbara Billingsley and Hugh Beaumont as Beaver's parents,

June and Ward Cleaver, and Tony Dow as Beaver's brother Wally.

The show has attained an iconic status in the United States, with the Cleavers exemplifying the idealized suburban family of the mid-20th century.

The show aired from 1957 -1963 and I was right around the Beaver Clever age. I still have to laugh at the miss adventures he would get himself into.

In a typical episode Beaver got into some sort of trouble, then faced his parents for reprimand and correction. 

However, neither parent was omniscient......... indeed, the series often showed the parents debating their approach to child rearing, and some episodes were built around parental gaffes.

  The show was created by writers Joe Connelly and Bob Mosher. 

Veterans of radio and early television.... they often found inspiration for the shows characters, 

plots and dialogue in the lives, experiences and conversations of their.... very own children.

"Leave It to Beaver" is one of the first prime time sitcom series written from a child's point of view.
